Halton Region Public Health (HRPH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Appleby GO Station in Burlington.
Although it appears to be contained, according to Metrolinx, it fits the definition of two or more staff testing positive for COVID-19 within a 14-day period.
Metrolinx has confirmed that staff who have contracted the virus and any staff that are at risk are currently isolating at home.
At this point, HRPH has not provided recommendations for further staff isolations or testing.
Metrolinx will continue to enforce infection prevention and control best practices under the supervision of public health officials.
This includes cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces in stations, ensuring all employees wear medical masks at all times, ensuring all staff follow the health screening process before entering the workplace and ensuring that all staff who are experiencing any symptoms stay home.
Frontline and Metrolinx staff who are working from home are being encouraged and supported with paid time off to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible.
According to Metrolinx, the total number of staff that have tested positive is now 136 out of over 4,500 employees, which is equivalent to approximately 3 per cent of the workforce.
Metrolinx has expanded safety measures as variants of concern increase across Ontario.
This includes issuing medical masks for staff as well as implementing rapid testing in high-risk locations to ensure everyone’s safety until more people are vaccinated.
