According to Halton Region Public Health’s website, an outbreak at The Village of Tansley Woods was declared on Oct. 3. 2020.
The Schlegel Villages-run retirement home is located at 4100 Upper Middle Road.
According to Halton Region Public Health, two cases of COVID-19 have been found in residents and four have been reported in staff members. The website says two residents have died of the virus.

Schlegal Villages confirmed the recent deaths on its website.
“We learned that a husband and wife who lived together in our Emma’s neighbourhood in the Village of Tansley Woods retirement home and passed away within hours of each other were positive for COVID-19,” the website reads.
“This couple had both lived with several underlying health conditions and were supported with love by a small, dedicated core of team members in palliative care.”
The company says the risk of spread to other residents is considered low because both residents were in quarantine.
“Because one of these residents had been in hospital in mid-September, they had both been in quarantine together in their last weeks; any risk of additional transmission to other residents, therefore, is considered by Public Health to be very low,” the website reads.
“Neither had been positive for COVID-19 prior to the hospital admission, so the team is working closely with health care partners to determine any possible contacts and a source of the infection.”
The home extended its condolences to the family and friends of the couple.
“We find small comfort in the fact that this couple was able to share their final hours together with family members by their side; our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to these loved ones who are feeling this loss so acutely.”
A Schlegel Villages spokesperson told inhalton.com that none of the four staff members who tested positive are showing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 at this time and that no residents other than the two who passed away have tested positive.
“There are currently no residents in the entire Village who are positive for COVID-19. The couple who sadly passed away and were discovered to be positive would have been the only cases in residents,” said Kristian Partington, a Communications Specialist with Schlegel Villages, in an email to inhalton.com.
