Cause Determined in Child’s Death in Burlington

A cause of death has been determined after a three-year-old boy died in a parked SUV on a hot day in Burlington.

A call came in for an unresponsive child around 5:30 p.m. on May 23.

First responders raced to the scene, finding the boy -outside of the vehicle- without vital signs, say Halton police.

Paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

The grey Ford Escape was parked near Crossroads Christian Communications at North Service and Kerns roads, at 1295 North Service Road.

An autopsy was conducted on May 24.

According to a recent release, the preliminary cause of death was determined to be hyperthermia.

This is “consistent with the child being left in a vehicle and exposed to high temperatures for an extended period of time,” reads the release.

The investigation is continuing. No charges have been laid to date.
