What began as a marching band parade in 1980 is now the city’s largest – and free – festival and it’s set to take over Burlington for the next nine days.
The Sound of Music Festival is kicking off in downtown Burlington and along the waterfront starting Saturday, with the Offspring and Marianas Trench.
With 100 acts across 10 stages, it’s the city’s biggest event of the year, generating $11.7 million in economic activity and drawing more than 200,000 visitors.
They’ll be lining up to see dozens of acts, including Burlington’s Walk Off the Earth, who’ll be hitting the stage on Sunday.

The region’s largest music event supports a medley of new and emerging artists, blasts from the past and some of today’s most popular performers, such as Oakville’s Jasco, Fiction, The Collaborators, and illScarlett.
Saturday’s kickoff is ticketed, while the remainder of shows are free. Upgrades to ‘frontrow’ seats and ‘sweet seats’ are available starting at $25.
The festival’s Sound of Music Club Series brings local talent to the spotlight one show at a time, while the event’s Grande Festival Parade means there’s no shortage of entertainment on every corner.
The Downtown Streetfest, Children’s Village, carnival, vendors and free Father’s Day weekend concerts draws crowds of all ages, from near and far.
