Burlington residents who have recently been called by “Tell City Hall,” have likely been targeted by a phone scam.

The goal of this scam is to gather personal information by making residents think a survey is being conducted by City Hall about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Several residents have reported receiving this kind of call, which is why the City has issued a warning while confirming that these calls have no affiliation with the City of Burlington.

According to the City, the calls appear to be coming from 905-234-1298.

Anyone who is contacted by this number, or another number claiming to be “Tell City Hall,” is advised to hang up.

According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, it’s best not to rely on or trust a phone’s call display. This is due to the fact that there is still a strong possibility that it is a scam even if the call appears to be from an authentic source.
