Burlington residents will have to reach a little deeper into their pockets to pay their taxes this year.

Burlington City Council has approved a 2.5 per cent tax hike.

The 2021 Tax levy bylaw, which reflects the budget processes of both Halton Region and the City, works out to a total of $19.02 for each $100,000 or urban residential assessment.

With the ongoing pandemic and financial stresses that come with that, City Council also approved a 2021 COVID-19 Property Tax Deferral Payment Plan.

This allows eligible property owners who are unable to pay their property taxes by the regularly scheduled due dates to apply to defer taxes under a pre-authorized payment plan.

For more information the payment deferral plan, visit www.burlington.ca/propertytax.

The final tax bills will be mailed to residents in late May.
