Burlington City Council recently approved a reduction in insurance rates for business owners that are adding a temporary patio on public land.
In previous years, restaurant owners operating a temporary patio on public land carried $5 million commercial general liability insurance.
The 2021 temporary patio program reduced it to $2 million in commercial general liability insurance.
“We heard you and acted on insurance requirements. Lowering insurance rates for temporary patios on public land for a period of time will keep more money in the pockets of our restaurants who won’t have to pay the higher premiums for additional insurance,” said Mayor Marianne Meed Ward.
“Burlington Council is committed to doing everything within our wheelhouse to support struggling businesses as they continue to weather the pandemic storm.”
Residents are reminded that the insurance rate is only applicable to patios on public lands and in effect for the 2021 patio program, which runs from April 15 to Oct. 31, 2021.
