5 Rides That Used to Exist at Canada’s Wonderland

Canada’s Wonderland is the country’s largest and oldest theme park. The 330-acre park been around since 1981, boasting a wealth of attractions and fun for people across the GTA and even beyond.

From Wonder Mountain to Splashworks, it’s no secret that Canada’s Wonderland is a must-visit each and every summer.

When I was 10, having a season pass to Wonderland made me one of the coolest kids on the block. And to this day, my season pass makes me pretty cool.

Over the years, a ton of attractions have been replaced, renamed, or even removed entirely. And whether you visited Canada’s Wonderland when it first opened in ’81 or you’ve only ever known it in the new millennium, there must be a ride or two you remember that no longer exists anymore.

Honestly, Jet Scream used to scare the heck out of me.

Here are five rides that used to exist at Canada’s Wonderland, in no particular order.

5) Bayern’s Curve

Bayern’s Curve had a substantial 19-year run from the park’s opening in 1981 until the year 2000. The 16-car ride ran in a circle very fast, several times, and it was located right beside the Mountain. It was known for its massive horn which blared when the ride whent its fastest.

4) Jet Scream

Ah, my favourite ride ever (sarcasm). Jet Scream was a ride that was kind of like The Rage in the Medieval village. It was a looping star ship ride that rotated riders 360 degrees, 10 stories high. Now, it’s been replaced by Wind Seeker. Jet Scream had a 20-year run from 1990-2010.

3) Pharoah’s Falls

This ride stood for 12 years from 1988-2000, and it featured two water slides. Basically, riders would sit on plastic sleds and slide down at a steep angle, starting from 30-feet high. Talk about a stomach-dropping ride. Its loading tower wasn’t removed until 2001, when it made room for Psyclone. You can see the ride at the 11-second mark of the video.

2) Sky Rider

It ran for 29 years and it was definitely a fan favourite – Sky Rider opened in 1985 and closed pretty recently, in 2014. The ride was Canada’s Wonderland’s only standing roller coaster, taking riders on a standing adventure, and it even had a loop. That’s right – you’d ride a 360-degree loop while standing up! It was reportedly sold to a park in Tuscany, and it was removed to make way for further park expansion.

1) Zumba Flume

One of the park’s original attractions, Zumba Flume was open from 1981-1994. It was a classic log flume ride, with two slides and a steep drop, ending in a giant splash of water. Now, it’s been replaced by Flight Deck (formerly Top Gun).
