Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a 24-year-old driver was hit with a double whammy of infractions on the 407 Wednesday.

The OPP Highway Safety Division Twitter account posted a photo of an officer’s radar gun showing 183 km/hr.
The photo was accompanied by the caption, “24 yr old driver stopped on #hwy407 in #Burlington area at 183km/hr. Driver explained he (and the two passengers, who do not live with the driver) were on their way to pick up a motorcycle.”

The speed limit on the 407 is 100 km/h.
According to the Ontario Traffic Act, drivers who go more than 50 over the speed limit could face 6 demerit points, an immediate 7-day license suspension and vehicle impounding; a 2-year license suspension, 6 months in jail, a maximum fine of $2,000, and a 100 per cent insurance increase.
A failure to comply with social distancing orders set forth by the province during the COVID-19 pandemic could result in a fine up to $1,000.
