Whether or not you’ll admit it, Brampton is a cool place to live. We have a huge pool of creative talent from here, a solid food scene, and now, we have sweaters to show our B-town pride!

The “Built in Brampton” sweaters are a limited edition sweater collection from co-op students in LAB B’s Zero Gravity Program.

Students Rahul Anil, Jenei Johnson, Oneeb Khan, Varun Khatri, Daniel Lawrence, Javoanne McFarlane-Edwards, Shaun Nankumar, Caitlin Nunes-Pavao and Jahvon Thompson, are the entrepreneurs behind this cool new idea, thanks to what they’ve learned at LAB B.

The Zero Gravity Program is a 15-week experimental learning model for high school co-op students. Basically, students get to learn more about digital marketing, entrpreneurship, and project management in a hands-on environment.

This time around, in its Zero Gravity’s fifth cohort, some awesome young entrepreneurs came up with an idea to showcase Brampton through iconic sweaters.

“The Built in Brampton sweater collection was designed to showcase the innovative and creative talent in Brampton while providing youth with a hands-on learning experience,” said LAB B in a recent statement.

The young team created four styles of sweaters in total, ranging from $35-40

“The Zero Gravity Program has provided me with the opportunity to build something from scratch and to use my own inspiration to create an impactful design,” says Caitlin Nunes-Pavao, a web-development student and member of the entrepreneurial team behind the sweaters. “I have never had the experience to create something that is tangible. It is great knowing that the other co-op students and I were able to create something that can be shared.”

Nunes-Pavao is now looking into web-development post-secondary programs — LAB B’s program had a hand in shaping her choice.

“The Zero Gravity Program activates high school students to become lifelong learners in the digital world,” says Harpreet Singh, co-founder of LAB B. “Our students develop skills sets that employers want and that help build an entrepreneurial mindset. This is a fundamental part of the growth of youth in the Brampton community, as it provides students with resources and tools to build a foundation for themselves.”

Even Mayor Linda Jeffrey is in on the Brampton pride that these students have brought to light!

“These students are not just a strong example of creative talent that resides in Brampton – they are also an example of the great civic pride our youth take in coming from and being built in Brampton. It is inspiring to see how youth are using their skill sets in an entrepreneurial venture to create positivity within our city,” says Jeffrey.

The Zero Gravity Program is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and Toronto Pearson.
