Woman found dead at Brampton fire scene, homicide investigators take man into custody

A fire in Brampton has turned into a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead at the scene.

Peel Regional Police and emergency crews were called to the home on Martindale Cres. in the McLaughlin Rd. and Williams Parkway area just before 4 a.m. today (Dec. 4) with a reports of the fire.

Police say when Brampton firefighters arrived at the scene they found five residents of the household had safely made it out of the home, but one resident was still inside. Firefighters tried to rescue the woman but she was found dead. It is not yet known what caused her death. A second woman was taken to hospital with injuries.

Subsequently, police homicide investigators were called in and a 34-year-old man was located nearby and taken into custody.

Police say no charges have been filed, but the investigation is continuing.
