Brampton is a growing city with more people moving in in the coming decades, and as such developments are going to be a very common sight, at least in certain parts of the city.

There have been a number of developments proposed in Brampton, and residents may be wondering about what the current status is pertaining to these developments.

Here is the latest information, according to the City of Brampton.

Rhythm Phase 2 Tower

This 31-storey tower at 209 Queen Street East is set to give some company to the existing Rhythm Condos near Queen and Kennedy, the final phase in the Mattamy Rhythm development. Rhythm Phase 2 will boast 272 dwelling units, rental tenure and commercial space on the ground floor.

The Zoning By-law amendment has been approved by Council but appealed to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), and a site plan application has been submitted. According to the city, the OMB appeal was withdrawn, therefore the Zoning By-law Amendment process is complete.

Staff is currently working on finalizing the site plan approval process.

Symphony CondominiumsYou might have already seen the massive signs for the upcoming Symphony Condominiums, set to tear down and reconstruct the building where the 26-year-old breakfast restaurant Kosy Korner stood, attached to some offices, at 145 and 147 Queen Street East.

Symphony condos will consist of one 23-storey residential condo building with 156 dwelling units and one five-storey office building with 5,169 square metres of floor area. The suites will start in the $300,000 range with units of up to 1,030 square feet, and you can already register for your spot in the building. Check out Symphony condos’ website here.

According to the city, the Official Plan and Zoning By-law amendments were approved by City Council back on July 11. The applicant (developer) is now working on the detailed design through the site plan process.

Rose Garden Residences

New towers are indeed proposed for downtown Brampton at 122-130 Main Street North, 6 and 7 Nelson Street East, and 7 and 11 Church Street East. These three towers are proposed to have 23, 25, and 27 stories, with one three-storey stacked townhouse building.

The Rose Garden Residences will boast 590 units and 5,205 square metres of commercial space.

What’s their status? There is no new information available, according to the city. A Zoning By-law amendment application has been received, and a public meeting will be held sometime soon to get public input on the proposal.

80 Scott StreetThere’s certainly been a lot of activity on this final development on our previous list. The public meeting was held on November 19 and, suffice it to say, residents were not happy.

The developer’s application proposes to demolish the current building and put up a 17 storey building with 358 units with 460 below grade parking spaces (see picture).

Residents raised a number of concerns, chief among which was the structure was too big for this area. Stemming from the size issue were flooding concerns; a woman and new homeowner named Stephanie gave one of the more articulate deputations, saying the structure is “socially disruptive for the area”.

It should be noted that this is only the first presentation and no final decisions have been made by council.
