It’s true, the mythical Springdale Library now has an opening date!

For those of you have been waiting for this massive state-of-the-art library to open in Brampton, the time is soon. Springdale Library’s completion has been in the works since summer of 2016, and now, Brampton Library has announced that the space will officially open this Monday, February 12, 2018.

Springdale Library and Neighbourhood Park is located at the northeast corner of Bramalea Road and Dewside Drive, and Urban Toronto has reported that the site has been partly paid for by a developer “to build townhouses instead of the zoned commercial (there still is a commercial big box development directly south of this site).”

The state of the art library and community centre boasts about 26,000 square feet in total, according to the City. What’s more – the library will boast a splash pad, children’s play equipment, parking, and a “contemplative garden.”

The garden and park are barelling towards a Spring 2018 opening.

The library boasts very modern architecture, a common area for those long working and snacking sessions, a 3D printing area, space for events, and a special nook for children with fun colours, shorter bookshelves, and a cool lighting display mounted on the wall.

Other library features are geothermal heating and cooling, LED lighting strategies, a reflective white roof and more.

The overall geometry of the building is described by the city as triangular, yet undulating and amorphous, in order to control its shape, but maintain a relationship to the “organic nature” of the site.

It’s true, we’ll have a brand new community space in just days. This weekend, you can ogle it from the outside. But let us tell you — we’ve had a peak inside and the new library is a stunner!
