We’ve officially said goodbye to 2019 and welcomed 2020!

But have you ever wondered what your grandparents or residents of the Brampton from yesteryear rang in the new year?

According to the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA), there is some archived footage from the Brampton New Year’s Eve celebration back in 1967, when people were getting ready to welcome 1968.

You can see that this event took place in downtown Brampton, as shown in the parade with the flags, with some other familiar sights such as the gazebo at Gage Park, where a number of residents were holding the crests of each province.

1967 was quite an eventful year for Canada, as the country marked 100 years of Confederation.

The clip is part of “This is Brampton 1967”, a silent film by local photographer Cecil Chinn, whose work is preserved in the Region of Peel Archives.
