Upgrades and Enhancements Coming to Brampton GO Station

Commuters who regularly use GO Transit might be happy to hear that some upgrades and improvements are slated for GO Stations throughout the region–and that a busy Brampton location is about to get some attention.

The province recently announced that it’s moving forward with improvements to stations across the GO rail network to “ease congestion and provide faster, more frequent and more convenient transit service for families and commuters across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).”

If you commute to Toronto for work or play, you might be happy to hear that enhancements are being made to Union Station, including the construction of a new, wider platform with a roof to protect commuters from the elements, as well as a concourse area beneath the platform.

Also, a new emergency power system will allow lights, digital signs and public announcement systems to run in the event of a power outage.

If you tend to stay local (or head to Mississauga from time to time), you might want to note that Metrolinx says that construction is ongoing or slated to start at the following stations:

· Mount Pleasant
· Port Credit
· Clarkson
· Dixie
· Erindale
· Streetsville
· Lisgar

According to the province, early works at GO stations will support secure bike parking and electric vehicle charging stations, as well as more trips.

The infrastructure upgrades support GO Regional Express Rail (RER). In case you haven’t been following transit news, GO RER aims to provide faster and more frequent service across the GO rail network and is the largest commuter rail project in Canada.

It includes electrifying core segments and expanding the rail network, and bringing more two-way, all-day service to commuters, increasing the number of weekly trips from about 1,500 to nearly 6,000 by 2025.

The province is investing $21.3 billion to transform the GO network from a commuter transit system to a regional rapid transit system. GO RER involves more than 500 separate projects across 40 municipalities.
