A 33-year-old Brampton man is dead after being shot numerous times in a residential Brampton neighbourhood which left a SUV riddled with bullets.

“We can confirm multiple shots were fired at a lone male victim,” said Peel Regional Police Const. Rachel Gibbs.

“There are no suspects at this time.”

First responders rushed to Desert Sand Dr. and Rattlesnake Rd. at 10:27 p.m. on Thursday, near Bramalea Rd. and Sandalwood Pkwy. E.

Police arrived and “located a male with obvious signs of trauma,” said Gibbs.

The victim was transported to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries and died in hospital.

The incident was initially reported as a shooting on the sidewalk — police aren’t saying if the victim was in the vehicle when he was killed, however, the SUV was seized as evidence.

More than a dozen evidence markers surrounded the light-coloured SUV with shattered windows on the driver’s side.

A suspect vehicle – only described as dark – was seen near Desert Sand and Rattlesnake.

Peel police have set up a command centre, where the homicide unit is investigating.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to phone the homicide and missing persons bureau at (905) 453-2121 ext. 3205 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

UPDATE: Investigators are asking residents with surveillance cameras to review footage for any clues that could assist police.
