Traffic Stop Leads to Several Charges and Arrest of Brampton Man

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have reported that a Brampton man has been arrested for several offences after a Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program stop in Caledon.

On Friday, June 16, 2017, officers were conducting RIDE traffic stops at the northbound off-ramp of Highway 410 at the Valleywood Boulevard exit.

After a sobriety check, officers began an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act which led to the arrests of both the driver and passenger of a grey 2006 Mazda.

The officer located a prohibited firearm in the motor vehicle.

The driver, Dexter Kumar Persaud, 22, of Brampton, has been charged with several offences.

Persaud was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis) Under 30 grams, Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, Find Firearm or Weapon Not Reported, and Tampering with a Serial Number of a Firearm.

The passenger, Essa Nona, 23, of Beeton has been charged with Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, Find Firearm or Weapon Not Reported, and Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With.

Both males are scheduled for a hearing on July 13, 2017, in Orangeville.
