Life can get stressful – with work, school, chores and our social lives – that even catching up our sleep can be hard. Though many us would love to fly to a tropical destination, we either don’t have enough money or the time.

So, here are the top 5 ways to destress outside of the city, and without breaking the bank.

5. Immerse Yourself In Ontario’s Heritage

If you love history, then Ontario is full of many heritage places. From ancient ruins to castles, people can spend a day getting to know the land they live on. One of our favourites is the Fulford Place. People can get a rare glimpse of the luxury of another era. They can discover the story of Senator George and Mary Fulford while exploring their grand mansion, featuring many of the original furnishings, garden and lake. Walk the same halls as royalty and stroll through the restored gardens. The summer season is from May to September 2, but they also offer year-round school visits and group tours by appointment.

4. Watch A Movie Under The Night Sky

Bring blankets, snacks, and lawn chairs and curl up under the stars at a drive-in movie night! Movie nights offer a cozy distraction from your stressors for a few hours and incorporate some much-needed relaxation. Better yet, laugh off your stress! Grab a group of friends and make a social gathering out of it, or have some alone time. At the Mustang Drive-in Theatre, you can actually see the stars since it is away from the city lights and pollution. Tickets are only $13 from Friday to Sunday and $10 on Tuesdays!

3. Take A Trip To The Beach

It’s almost summer and what better way to Desiree than to hit the beach! Grand Bend has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s best beach towns. It’s also been compared to the Miami beaches. So instead of travelling to Miami, take a road trip down to Grand Bend. According to their site, Grand Bend’s Main Beach is one of only 27 in Canada to have earned official Blue Flag status for its commitment to strict water quality and safety criteria. You can choose to join the crowds on the Main Beach or find a quieter experience on the South Beach.

2. Visit One of Ontario’s National Parks

Ontario has many hidden gems. It has one of the best national parks. Discover Ontario by walking through the Bruce Peninsula National Park. Melt away your stress by climbing through the dramatic cliffs to walking beside the turquoise waters of Georgian Bay. You may even spot black bears and rare reptiles in the rocky areas and diverse wetlands. The Bruce Peninsula National Park is home to ancient cedar trees and a multitude of orchids and ferns. Plus, it is free for children under 17 and about $10 for parking!

1. Stay at A Spa Resort

What is more comforting that letting your hair down, stepping into a robe, getting a massage and eating the best food at an overnight resort? Nothing. At Ste. Anne’s Spa, you can do all that at a low cost. Located in the small town of Grafton, the spa aims to reduce your stress level and suggests the right combination of treatments, fitness programs and rest to help restore your balance. Once a home in 1858, this spa resort offers historic and comfy rooms as well as additional amenities like a eucalyptus steam room, pool, tranquillity garden, walking trails and even a horse stable.
