Brampton is known to have some of the most unique cuisines within the GTA, and its vast and varied food scene is very much a reflection of its vibrant and multi-cultural population. Whether you’re looking for a comforting western staple food like pizza or a savoury Indian treat like a samosa, Brampton has got you covered.
There truly is no shortage of places to eat here, and we’re grateful for that!

Who doesn’t love a gold ol’ fashioned traditional apple pie made with the freshest ingredients (sourced locally from the farmers’ market)? The Apple Factory is sure to cure your fix for something sweet and savoury with over a dozen type of pies – including some with no sugar for those watching their holiday waistline (but it’s pie, come on!). The shop is located on the corner of Mississauga Rd and Bovaird Dr. and also serves fresh tarts as well as freshly-baked bread. If you’re in the mood for something homemad and country-fresh, this is the place to go (it’s also the place to go for candy apples from time to time, just so you know!).
The Sul Iramos Smokehouse is located in the heart of downtown Brampton and specializes in Portuguese southern fusion cuisine. The restaurant is known for its smoked meat, which is smoked (low and slow) and it was even featured on the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here. Must eat dishes include the beef eater (southern slow smoked brisket, deep fried okra and shrimp and collard greens, served with Creole mustard, house gravy and Caesar dressing) and the pulled pork and Beanasaurus (southern slow smoked pulled pork, homemade mama’s chill, fresh cut creamy coleslaw and fried mac and cheese bites).
Nothing says authentic Serbian cuisine more than the Queen Gypsy on Main Street. Utilizing family recipes handed down through generations (and oozing of a trendy atmosphere), the Queen Gypsy is a fan-favourite in downtown Brampton. Whether it’s the classic pork schnitzel or the trademark Karadjordjeva schnitzel (a flattened piece of pork rolled into a tube and filled with Serbian-style cream cheese and then DEEP-FRIED–a personal favourite of this inBrampton writer), this is definitely the spot to hit when you’re looking for some quality late-night eats (they are open until midnight every night except Monday and Sunday). The owner, Vera, describes it perfectly on her website: “why Gypsy? We eat crazy beautiful food, we drink, we swear, and we laugh…simple. We are not strange, we are just not normal.”
A staple of downtown Brampton (and a favourite for those that work at Brampton City Hall), Poutine Dare To Be Fresh brings the taste of Quebec to the Flower City. Using fresh ingredients influenced by local flavours, Graham Ward and his team have truly perfected the goodness that comes with comfort food. The serving sizes are described as “just right” and their offerings are truly out-of-this world, including the Mediterranean poutine (topped with feta curds, sun-dried tomatoes, and kalmata lives), the recent Krabby Patty & Shrimp poutine (crispy crab patty, breaded shrimp and seafood sauce caper mayo) and other classic items such as a Montreal smoked meat sandwich and a Steamie hotdog. They also feature a breakfast poutine (which has to be the best way to start your morning) called The Farmers Market (classic poutine with two farm-fresh fried eggs and Canadian back bacon).
If you want authentic Mexican Food in the city, look no further than La Catrina located on Queen Street West in downtown Brampton. The restaurant is family owned (it uses recipes from “La Abuela” – grandmother’s recipes) and brings true, authentic flavour that captures the essence of Mexico. Chef Eddie Bachur and his team provide a wide selection of authentic good eats from tacos to cerviche and burritos and house-made mole dishes. And if you’re staying for dessert (which we know you will) you will have to try the churros (Fried dough pastry dusted with sugar and cinnamon) or a favourite amongst the InBrampton team – the Pastel De Tres Leches (a vanilla sponge cake soaked in three milks filled with peach–not to be confused by the classic Big Pun song).
