Decadent, chocolatey, thick, and delicious – brownies are an epic dessert or snack at any time of day. Breakfast? Eat a brownie. Lunch? Eat a brownie. Dinner? Eat a brownie! Dessert? Definitely eat a brownie.

Thankfully for us in Brampton, there are a good handful of bakeries and restaurants that serve the indulgent square of heaven.

In fact, let’s all replace our birthday cakes with squares on squares of delicious brownies this year. Yum.

Here are the top five places to get an amazing brownie in Brampton:

5) Kraving’s Bake Shop

Kraving’s is a small bakery located at Sandalwood and Richvale that has a selection of readymade treats and they take larger, customizable orders for treats like cakes and cupcakes. As for their brownie, it’s dense, chocolatey, and sweet, with a layer of thick icing smeared on top that cracks slightly when you bite into it, and a dollop of extra chocolate for good luck. You can hear the moisture when you take a bite out of this brownie, and it’s on the chewy side. This brownie is best for anyone who has a huge sweet tooth and loves all of that sugar and chocolate. It’s thick, super sweet, and has a traditional brownie texture.

4) La Cakery

Sweet, indulgent, and slightly softer than the Kravings brownie, La Cakery makes a pretty epic brownie. La Cakery is located in a plaza at Queen and McLaughlin, and if you haven’t been before, plan your trip now! It’s a sweet-toothed person’s heaven, serving up a range of cakes, cookies, custard tarts, and much, much more. If anything, order a cake from here once and you’ll be amazed. This brownie is moist and thick, and on the super sweet side for all of you who love your milk chocolate and sugar. The icing is soft and melts in your mouth, which is a good compliment to the brownie. Over all, go here if you’re looking for a sugar high.

3) Davide’s Bakery

More on the cakey side with an extremely creamy and delicious frosting, Davide’s will 100 per cent impress you with their brownies! This Italian bakery located in a plaza at Torbram and Sandalwood sells everything from cake pops to macarons to whole cakes to bread and more, and they even have student lunch specials on weekdays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Be warned – it gets super crowded with students seeking fries supreme, spring rolls, and poutine for lunch, but that means it’s also a great, cheap spot for lunch with a brownie on the side. You can get brownies in smallers squares or larger rectangles here which is a big plus, too. This brownie isn’t overly sweet and will melt in your mouth and keep you coming back for more.

2) Traditional Taste Bakery

Traditional Taste is located in the same plaza as La Cakery at Queen and McLaughlin, and it’s a unique and delicious take on the traditional brownie. This Portuguese cafe makes a super soft brownie that’s just right on the sugar level (it’s the least sweet brownie on this list, if you were wondering), with a mousse-like cream smoothed on top and some walnuts caked inside. The walnuts add the perfect nutty flavour to the entire brownie, which is awesome, and the textures work really well together, from the nuts to the creamy icing to the soft brownie and everything inbetween. This brownie would be epic with some coffee on the side, perhaps staring out the window in this cute bakery’s cafe area, watching rain fall…

Don’t forget to grab a custard tart to go!

1) The Grainery

If you’ve been keeping up with my top fives, you know that I’m a huge fan of the Grainery, and for good reason! They have cookies, croissants, delicious fresh-baked bread, some of the best hot soup and cold cut sandwiches in Brampton, and much more. But we need to talk about their brownies! The Grainery typically has a selection of brownies for sale, including a traditional chocolate brownie as seen below, and even a rocky road brownie complete with tiny marshmallows on top. The traditional chocolate brownie has more of a cakey texture, boasting the perfect amount of chocolate and sugar (it’s decadent as heck, too!) that will make you want to lick the paper underneath for any escaped crumbs. And their icing? Slightly sweeter and chocolatier than the brownie itself, and creamy, making an excellent compliment to the entire square. Over all a delicious brownie and I’ll definitely be back for more.
