Spicy Island Jerk Caribbean Fusion set up shop in the downtown core early in March and is satisfying the bustling downtown crowd with a range of comforting Caribbean classics, including jerk pork, fried chicken, curry goat, oxtail, stew fish, chicken soup and more. Centrally located on Main Street, the resto is easily accessible for workers looking to grab a quick lunch or visitors hoping to enjoy a dinner that’s on the hotter side. As for the resto’s signature dish, operators recommend the jerk chicken and jerk pork.

From pork spare ribs and beef brisket, to homemade sausages and fried chicken, to spicy mac and cheese and poutine, the brand new casual resto has some indulgent menu items all set for customers. They boast dine-in, take-out, and delivery, so if you want to try their food, you don’t even need to leave your house. “We smoke our meat all night over whole chunks of naturally procured wood,” says the resto. 3) La Capannina
La Capannina is a family-run gem that’s been operating since the 80s and has more than stood the test of time. The downtown Brampton resto, tucked away on George Street North, offers charming, vintage appeal and a classic menu full of such delicious Italian mainstays as spaghetti bolognese, homemade gnocchi, manicotti and veal parmigiana. It also boasts a few unique offerings, such as oysters rockefeller, mushroom caps stuffed with lobster, shrimps, scallops and hollandaise sauce and a rotating list of decadent specials (the mixed meat and cheese board was a sweet surprise and came with a tender brie and flavourful capicola). The service is informative and attentive and the homemade gnocchi is fall-apart tender, not to mention generously portioned. The manicotti is also incredibly fresh, allowing the diner to taste each ingredient. There’s a reason this resto has lasted as long as it has and that reason is fresh, memorable food served by friendly, helpful staff in an inviting atmosphere.

Here’s another pleasant and wide variety of flavourful food for the vegetarian in you (no meat here). Brars is unique because it also has a bakery. So as soon as you step inside the restaurant there is nothing but food. The sweets look amazing and it kind of makes you want to skip the main course altogether. But don’t do that. Brars has a wonderful variety of Indian food that’s healthy and that’s also comforting. You can’t turn away when you see a grand, circular hot plate with curried chickpeas surrounded by samosas. And there is everything you could want when you’re craving Indian food, whether you grew up on it or are new to it. If you have room for dessert the sweets are also almost exclusively cultural except for the ice cream. This is a great place to experiment eating Indian food. However, don’t be afraid to ask what is available because the food descriptions on the glass are a little difficult to read.
On the edge of the downtown core sits Nova Grill and Bakery, a magical place that you might just miss if you’re not looking for it, even though it’s on Main Street. Sweets, hot meals, alcohol, lots of space, TVs – Nova Grill and Bakery has it all. You’ve probably seen Nova Grill and Bakery locations around the GTA, but this is one of the few that offers cooked meals. But, let’s talk pie. Nova has a rotating selection of pie that’s baked fresh daily: apple, caramel apple crunch, cherry, blueberry, strawberry-rhubarb, lemon-meringue, and pecan. You won’t know what pie you’ll be able to snag until you go in, and you’ll want to go early, because these pies go fast! Also – best custard tarts ever!
