Top 5 hottest restaurants in Brampton: March 15 – 21

While most people are listening to experts and voluntarily self-isolating in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, many are sad to be missing out on concerts, plays, movies, events and restaurants.

You might not be able to linger at a table right now, but dozens of Brampton restaurants are open and offering takeout and delivery services exclusively–so you can explore the city and its many cultures from the comfort of your own home.

Here are five local restaurants that you can find on delivery apps such as UberEats, Skip the Dishes and DoorDash. You can also call the restaurants directly to place an order or find out exactly which app to use to make an order.

5) Maguire’s Pub

Maguire’s at Queen and Hansen is attached to an industrial-looking building, and if you’ve never been, I would recommend it. They have a cozy patio and an interior that just screams PUB! Perogies are a staple on their pub grub menu, best served with a cold brew and a game. Maguire’s perogies are stuffed with potatoes and loaded with cheese, onions, and bacon on top, served with a healthy side of sour cream. Their perogies were filling and cooked well, with a slight crunch. Maguire’s perogies come to $10.16 with tax, a good price for a sit-down perogy-fest.

4) Crown and Lion

The Crown and Lion at Financial and Steeles is what I like to call my favourite pub in all of Brampton. The cozy, familiar vibe, dart boards, friendly staff, and epic menu (I’ve tried most of their menu now and everything tastes great so far) have made it my go-to for a casual drink or for a bite to eat. I’ll admit, their veggie burger had me confused…as soon as this was brought out, I wondered if my order was taken wrong! It looks like a beef burger and is flavoured like a beef burger – but it’s not! This succulent, thick, flavourful patty is soy-based with a mix of onions and spices, and the texture and flavour will have you craving another one. It’s well-seasoned with a kick of spice, and Crown has somehow managed to make it juicy. You can get this burger with or without cheese on top, and with sides like fries or a salad. Great if you’re looking for a casual, sit-down spot to grab a burger and a few pints!

3) Occassions

Specializing in square cakes (essentially cupcakes with square bases), these light and fluffy delights come in a range of flavours with unique names. They also offer a selection of macaroons, decorated cookies, festive shortbreads, cakes, cake pops and even ice cream. There is something for everyone at Occasions. The best part is there does not need to be an occasion to enjoy anything from this cute little shop.

2) Macaronz

If you’re looking for an amazing shortbread cookie, Macaronz in downtown Brampton is your spot. This place has a variety of shortbreads that are buttery as ever — toffee shortbread, chocolate chip shortbread, Reese’s pieces shortbread, plain shortbread, and even shortbread with Toblerone on top. Ideal for tea time (10/10 I would dip these in tea…but maybe that’s just me…), coffee time, or pretty much anytime, these babies are very crumbly and everything you would want from a good shortbread cookie, including being made in-house (like all the cookies on this list). Be sure to stick around for high tea here — a plain shortbread cookie usually comes with the Macaronz high tea experience.

1) That Italian Place

If you want a great artisan sandwich (especially a loaded veal one with all the fixings), this is the place to go. Hidden in an industrial-ish area just around the corner from Williams Parkway and Torbram, That Italian Place is a very busy spot with an authentic Italian feel. A word of caution when you visit: order early or have time to spare. This absolute gem of a restaurant appeared on The Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here in 2013 and for good reason – every item on the menu looks and tastes authentically delicious. If you’re in the mood for a hearty veal sandwich with all the toppings, you truly shouldn’t look anywhere else. The veal is tender, the mushrooms are filling and flavourful and the hot peppers add a certain wow factor that makes the sandwich complete. Another awesome item on their menu is the authentic woodfired pizza! If you’re looking to grab lunch, this is the ideal spot.
