If you’re looking for a delicious new spot that boasts spicy food, island cuisine, and jerk flavours all wrapped in one, you are in luck – Spicy Island Jerk Caribbean Fusion set up shop in the downtown core early in March and is satisfying the bustling downtown crowd with a range of comforting Caribbean classics, including jerk pork, fried chicken, curry goat, oxtail, stew fish, chicken soup and more. Centrally located on Main Street, the resto is easily accessible for workers looking to grab a quick lunch or visitors hoping to enjoy a dinner that’s on the hotter side. As for the resto’s signature dish, operators recommend the jerk chicken and jerk pork.
4) J.Red & Co
Definitely one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Located on Vodden and Main is one of the city’s gems. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because he has appeared on such TVshows as Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Dennis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. Here, you can experiment with all kinds of new food – you can try things like smoked cheddar mac ‘n cheese, egg rolls, and even crispy fried cauliflower ‘wings.’
To say this was one of the city’s most highly-anticipated new openings is a huge understatement. The brand new opening was definitely good news for fans of comforting western staple foods and the hockey legend himself–especially considering the fact that Clark was on hand to welcome new patrons. The casual dining restaurant–which boasts locations in Vaughan, Burlington and Hamilton–just opened up shop on Main Street North, just steps away from the Rose Theatre. Some popular menu items include baby back ribs, chicken quesadillas, six different types of burgers (including the Wendel burger with bacon, onion rings and cheddar cheese), Montreal smoked meat sandwiches and more.
Incredible perogies, beer flights, nachos, and mac’n’cheese – they’ve made several of our top fives, and this British-style pub near Queen and the 410 surprisingly has chicken and waffles on the menu, made like your mom might. What does that even mean, you ask? They take half of a waffle, toss buttermilk-fried chicken on top, and serve it with brussels sprouts (vegetables, so healthy!) – but that’s not all, they drizzle a tasty and unique milk gravy on top and infuse it all with black pepper. My point is, their chicken and waffles are so comforting, you won’t even realize you’ve consumed 1220 calories when you’re done.
Once you drive through the labyrinth of plazas on Airport and Queen you’ll find Onyxx, which just opened up within the last year and is quickly making a name for itself. What we enjoy about their nachos specifically is that they were perfectly typical (and perfectly great). Chopped tomatoes, peppers, olives, jalapenos – it’s the works and it was well-made. Though they usually play UFC fights, you’ll definitely want to check out their layout during playoffs season. Onyxx is a large space with a classy sports bar vibe happening, and TVs are everywhere, so you’ll definitely have a good spot to catch a game. Energetic, driven by sports, and stadium-like, Onyxx is a great location for a viewing party, and our number one this week!
