While you’re no doubt aware that Brampton boasts incredible restaurants that serve everything from classic Italian fare to mouth-watering tacos to southern fried delights, sometimes you don’t know exactly what dishes you’re missing.

In a city with as rich and diverse a food scene as Brampton, there’s no shortage of exquisite dishes that are more than worth checking out.

With that in mind, here are the top 5 hottest dishes that you need to try this weekend.

5 – Nom Nom Yogurt Bar and Café – Pizza Cone

It’s advertised as “The Best Thing Since the Slice” and to be honest, it definitely can be. A pizza cone looks just like you think it would, with the pizza dough acting as the cone. Baked in a futuristic machine, you get pizza ingredients instead of ice cream. It is actually delicious. You can choose from The Classic (pepperoni, cheese, sauce ), Margarita (basil, cheese, sauce), Hawaiian (ham, pineapple, cheese, sauce),vegetarian (red pepper, green pepper, black olives, mushrooms) or build your own with these toppings to make your creation: pepperoni, ham, cheese, pineapple, anchovies, basil, red peppers, green peppers, black olives and Mushrooms.

4) La Capannina

If you want gnocchi, you need to eat here La Capannina is a family-run gem that’s been operating since the 80s and has more than stood the test of time. The downtown Brampton resto, tucked away on George Street North, offers charming, vintage appeal and a classic menu full of such delicious Italian mainstays as spaghetti bolognese, homemade gnocchi, manicotti and veal parmigiana. It also boasts a few unique offerings, such as oysters rockefeller, mushroom caps stuffed with lobster, shrimps, scallops and hollandaise sauce and a rotating list of decadent specials. The gnocchi is melt-in-your-mouth tender and the serving is more than generous, meaning you’ll probably leave with leftovers. There’s a reason this place has been around as long as it has.

3) The Khana Sutra

Although the entire menu at this place is divine, you have to try the Bhawaan Tandoori mushroom caps, simple because you’re unlikely to find them anywhere else. The Khana Sutra is a spacious Queen Street East restaurant that boasts an expansive, delicious menu, playful decor and relaxing live music that augments a romantic meal. The service is friendly and attentive and the food is a cut above typical Indian fare. If you’re looking to share a meal with your date, you can also try the lime prawn pakoras (and, of course, the Bharwaan Tandoori mushroom caps). You won’t be disappointed—especially if you top the meal off with some tasty Canadian wine.

2) That Italian Place

If you want a great artisan sandwich (especially a loaded veal one with all the fixings), this is the place to go. Located just around the corner from Williams Parkway and Torbram, That Italian Place is a very busy spot with an authentic Italian feel. A word of caution when you visit: order early or have time to spare. This absolute gem of a restaurant appeared on The Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here in 2013 and for good reason–every item on the menu looks and tastes authentically delicious. If you’re in the mood for a hearty veal sandwich with all the toppings, you truly shouldn’t look anywhere else. The veal is tender, the mushrooms are filling and flavourful and the hot peppers add a certain wow factor that makes the sandwich complete. If you’re looking to grab lunch, this is the ideal spot.

1) J. Red & Co.

If you’re into southern food, you need to try the chicken and waffles offered at J. Red’s. Also, it helps that the resto definitely one of the most modern hotspots in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because he has appeared on such TV shows as Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Dennis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. The chicken and waffles are decadent, expertly fusing sugar and spice to create an exciting culinary experience that leaves you full and wanting more.
