Top 5 Date Ideas on a Budget in Brampton

Published April 13, 2017 at 8:26 pm

Dinner and a movie is not only an overplayed date idea, it can get expensive. If you’re spending about $15 on a weekend movie ticket at Cineplex, $20 on an entree at a chain, and $20 on drinks with dinner, that’s over $100 on your date for the both of you.

Contrary to popular belief, you can go on dates other than dinner at a chain restaurant and a movie at SilverCity or Orion Gate in Brampton. Better yet, you can date on a budget in Brampton. And, you can have fun and get to know each other while you’re at it. Whether you’re going on your first date or your tenth date, grab your S/O for a fun, affordable outing, because I’ve got the best date ideas on a budget in Brampton right here.

5) GlowZone 360

Cost: $15 for the 360 Experience – a round of mini-golf, a round of laser tag, and a $5 game card

GlowZone 360 is tucked away near McLaughlin and Flowertown, and is perfect if you’re looking for an active and competitive date idea. Mini-golf, laser tag, and the arcade are guaranteed to get your body moving and your adrenaline pumping. GlowZone is group friendly, so it’s also great for a double date. The coolest part? Everything glows. That, and they’re open until past midnight on Fridays and Saturdays for the summer. So, challenge your S/O to a tournament for the evening. The winner gets a kiss!

4) The Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA)

Cost: free general admission this month (regular: $5, or $4 for students and seniors)

In Brampton’s downtown core, head to PAMA to immerse yourselves in Canadian art and culture, play with the interactive map of Peel to see what it was like a century ago, and take a selfie in an old jail cell. Talk about what you see, crack some jokes, and leave more cultured than you came.

Bonus: stroll over to T by Daniel where you can whisk your partner to a cozy spot in the back area of the cafe and chat up a storm. They’re always playing great music, the staff is welcoming and courteous, and if it’s your first time there, they’ll welcome you with a curtsey and a smile. I highly recommend the lion chai, aka. the best chai I’ve ever had. A note that T by Daniel is open until 7p.m., so this is a good option for a daytime or early evening date.

3) Brunswick Zone Bramalea Lanes

Cost: $2-6/person/game

Having Brunswick at Bramtree and Chrysler is a great way to get a healthy competition going and stay active with your partner. Bowling is casual, fun, and you can joke with your partner about how light or heavy their choice of ball is. Brunswick also has a bunch of daily specials, so you can pick the best day and time to go based on your budget and schedule. Head over on a Tuesday night for a toonie per game and per shoe rental, a Wednesday night for $8 unlimited bowling and $1 shoe rentals, or a Sunday night for $2.50 per game and $2.50 per shoe rental. Grab some appetizers and work on your strikes with your S/O, challenge them to a competition, and play some arcade games afterwards. Pro tip: they have $3.50 PBRs on Tuesday and Sunday nights.

2) The Crown and Lion

Cost: appetizers start at $6, and drinks at $5

A pub is a classic casual date night location, and the Crown is conveniently located at Steeles and Financial for your night of food, drinks, and fun. Order some appetizers and pints, and you can dictate how much you spend for the night. Try putting a cap on your budget for $30 or $40 and you can easily stay under budget at the Crown.

There’s a lot to do: check out their daily specials, play darts, listen to live music on a weekend, come out to Trivia Night on Wednesdays, or even test your creativity at a Paint Nite, held frequently at this location. There’s also free WiFi to SnapChat your amazing night and your beautiful partner, and comfy booths for when you’re ready to sneak your arm around them.

1) Garden Square

Cost: free!

The most budget- and fun-friendly option on this list is catching an event at Garden Square in Brampton’s downtown core. Events range from live performances, to fitness classes, to movies. My favourite suggestion is to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks, snag a quaint spot in the square, and get cozy with your partner for a Saturday night movie in the summer. The vibe when Bramptonians come together to watch a movie under the stars is extremely comforting. You’ll feel like you’re a part of something bigger with your S/O. You can chat in intimate whispers, keep each other toasty, and ultimately, have an enjoyable time for free. Feel free to stay after the movie for some one-on-one late night, deep conversations under your blankets and the stars.
