Published August 24, 2017 at 1:03 am

The event that’s been called the biggest fight in combat sports history is set to take Brampton by storm on Saturday – it’ll be playing at some bars in Brampton, but not all of them! The fight’s only airing on pay-per-view, bars are charging cover, and you’ll want to pick the best bar seats in the house to catch this mighty match.

For those who need a bit of a backgrounder on “The Money Fight” (it’s so highly anticipated it might break some box-office records) between Floyd Mayweather and Conor MacGregor and why everyone is hyped about it, here’s the deal: Mayweather is a once-retired, renowned boxer, and McGregor is a big deal in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The two are set to face off in Vegas with millions watching.

The fight is on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 9 p.m. eastern, so pick a bar and grab a brew – it’s bound to be a good one.

Here are five bars you can catch the fight at in Brampton.

Beware: these bars have cover for the night since they’re airing the fight, and you’ll want to call ahead of time and reserve your spot.

5) The Frigate: A Firkin Pub

The British-style pub on Queen near the 410 boasts ample seating space – complete with booths, tables and chairs, a small area with a couch, and of course, a bar – and a patio, though you’ll likely want to be inside for the fun. They’ve got widescreen TVs, plus pool tables and dart boards, though you’ll want to be near a screen, surely. Definitely try their $8 beer flights.

4) Keenan’s

You can cozy up at Keenan’s in a residential plaza on the corner of Queen and Major William Sharpe to catch the game. If you’ve never been, they usually have live music and karaoke. Now, you can grab a spot with a good view of one of their screens at a booth, a table, on their one couch if you can swing it, or by the bar, and catch the fight. Definitely try their poutine.

3) Onyxx

This place is so into airing the game that they’ve even created a Facebook event page for it. This sports bar opened last year amidst the plazas on Airport and Queen. Onyxx is a large space with a classy sports bar vibe happening, and TVs are everywhere, so you’ll definitely have a good spot to catch the fight. And, UFC fights are this place’s jam, so it’s bound to be packed and energetic. Definitely try their nachos, they’re loaded and come with queso on top.

A local favourite, 52nd street is definitely having a bash for the fight on Saturday night. This Brampton “nightclub” boasts cheap drinks and bands regularly, as well as sports on their screens. It’s a popular hangout spot on Kennedy, so perhaps you want to check it out if you’ve never been. Definitely try their team platter, it’s got something for everyone.

1) Wendel Clark’s

This downtown Brampton hub opened its patio at the tail end of the summer, but we’ll forgive them! They’ve been talking about how they’ll be airing the match for some time now, and it’s a great place to catch the big fight. Wendel Clark’s is central, roomy, and has a variety of seating options. Definitely try the nachos – they’re addictive!
