Talented Brampton Photographers Can Submit Work to Prestigious Festival

A few weeks ago, a Brampton native who is well-versed in the city’s arts scene told us that Brampton would make a great home for the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival. The festival showcases an engaging range of photo-based works by both Canadian and international artists and its presence in the city — even if temporary — would make Brampton a destination and hot spot for acclaimed and up and coming members of the arts community.

The festival showcases an engaging range of photo-based works by both Canadian and international artists and its presence in the city — even if temporary — would make Brampton a destination and hot spot for acclaimed and up and coming members of the arts community.
Well, it looks like someone has been listening because Beaux Arts Brampton (BAB) Annual Open Juried Photography Contest is officially part of the prestigious Contact Festival.
Beaux Arts, a not-for-profit, artist-run centre, is currently calling for artists to submit their work for the contest. Fortunately for aspiring and ambitious prospective contestants, the deadline for the contest is now March 31 (it was March 21, initially).
As for who can submit, contest organizers are seeking entries from across Canada from a wide variety of photographers with different styles and subjects. Photographers are invited to submit one or two works for the show, which will be juried by acclaimed and award-winning fashion and commercial photographer Johan Sorensen.

Sorenson has been shooting for 35 years and has been sharing his skills and knowledge with students at Humber College for close to 20 years.
The connection with Contact is particularly exciting, as it’s actually the largest photography event in the world and what BAB calls “a premiere cultural experience in Canada, with over 1,500 artists and 200 exhibitions and happenings throughout the month in the Greater Toronto Area.”

First submissions cost $35 and additional ones cost $15.
The exhibition of chosen works will run from May 3 to June 3. Artists who submit work will be notified of the jurying results on April 7.
