Suspect Charged in Brampton Bank Robberies

A 25-year-old man is facing 13 charges following six bank robberies in Brampton and Toronto.

The holdups took place between Oct. 2017 and March 2018, say Toronto Police.

A suspect entered two branches in Brampton last fall on Oct. 7 and Oct. 10 and handed over a note saying he was armed.

The man demanded a specific quantity of money, investigators allege, adding no weapon was seen.

The same man held up three North York banks from Dec. 15 to Jan. 26, say police, wearing a disguise: dark glasses, a baseball hat and hood.

He again passed a holdup note stating he was armed and fled with cash.

Another Brampton bank was robbed by the same suspect, police allege, on March 23.

The hold up squad identified the man and arrested him on April 24.

The suspect tried to break free from officers, investigators allege, and a violent struggle took place until he was handcuffed.

Ivan Ramirez Chavira, 25, of no fixed address, is charged with six counts of robbery, six counts of disguise with intent, and assault to resist arrest.

He appeared in Toronto court on April 25.
