Approximately 800 athletes from across Ontario are coming to Peel to participate in the games.

The 2017 Special Olympics Summer Provincial Games kicked off on Thursday, July 13 and will run until Saturday, July 15 across Peel region.

Competitors will be participating in five different categories: athletics, bocce, soccer, softball, and golf.

Terry Fox Stadium and Century Gardens will host atheltics and bocce respectively, while Huron Park will host soccer and Dunton Athletic Fields will host softball in Mississauga, and finally, Caledon Country Club will host golf in Caledon.

Special guests include Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans, President and CEO of Special Olympics Ontario Glenn MacDonnell, the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band and the Chief’s Ceremonial Unit Drill Team, and of course, the hundreds of athletes from across the province.

Abbamania will kick off the opening ceremonies at the Powerade Centre on Thursday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m.

The games are hosted by Peel Regional Police and Special Olympics Ontario.
