If you’ve ever called 3-1-1 for overnight parking, city programming, or any other information about Brampton, something new is coming to the service that you’ll want to pay attention to!

You may already know that 3-1-1 is the line that residents, visitors, and businesses can call to get information about City of Brampton services or programs, or make a request for service.
When you call 3-1-1, you might be placed on hold.
And if you are, you will now hear music from local artists while you’re waiting to speak to a customer service representative!

This brand new initiative is called Playback 311, and any Brampton artists can apply to have their music played as hold music on the system.
It’s all family-friendly music – no explicit content is allowed.
Some genres you might hear when you’re placed on hold are alternative, blues, classical, country, easy listening, folk, jazz, pop, R&B/soul, reggae, rock, and world music.
“Music will be selected to best suit a broad-based audience and callers waiting on hold,” reads the City’s website.
For the first season of Playback 311, five artists have already been chosen.
Here’s whose music you’ll hear when you’re placed on hold:
Daysdeaf
A Brampton-based artist who explores composition through organic and electronic mediums, according to the City.
“Having delved into a multitude of genres with previous releases, he ventures for versatility in his work, and originality in his sound,” reads the website.
Don Ablett
This acoustic guitar-player and fingerstyle blues and ragtime musician was influenced by John Fahey, Bruce Cockburn and Eric Clapton.
Ablett and partner Brent Cooper were recipients of the Brampton Arts Council “Bravo” Award for Best Duo or Small Ensemble, and they’re recording new music in fall 2018.
Neil
This musician is an indie/alternative producer, composer, and singer-songwriter.
“When Neil was 10 years old, he had saved up his first $100 that he was ready to spend on toys at his local superstore,” reads the website.
“As he was ready to indulge, his father suggested that he ought to buy something that is immaterially priceless, over something of a day’s use. It was in that moment that his eyes became locked with beauty. He had become fixated upon a baby Yamaha acoustic guitar, that was conveniently priced at $100.”
Staasia Daniels
Daniels is a singer-songwriter from Brampton who began her career doing covers on YouTube. She completed an Independent Music Study program, where she met her now GSX label-mate and frequent producer Xpress, aka DJXP.
She’s been recognized by various publications, including NOW Magazine and Complex CA, which named her one of the year’s Artists You Need To Know.
Tam
This pop, R&B and soul artist, producer and DJ aims to capture imaginations and articulate hard-to-express feelings.
“Currently, Tam is focused on blending his organic, soulful vibes with the power of dance music and DJing,” reads the website.
“His vision is to make music that helps people heal, release, celebrate and most importantly, feel alive. He is currently working on his highly anticipated upcoming EP “Alchemy” set to be released 2018-2019.”
