Tim Hortons is making some big changes in order to elevate the coffee experience for customers.
Tim Hortons has been serving their same signature coffee since 1964, however, over the past three years, the company has conducted market tests and worked with engineers to develop its new custom brewing technology.
Tim Hortons’ Head of Coffee Excellence Kevin West says, “Extensive research shows guests love Tim Hortons coffee, but it needs to be served more consistently. We’re excited to evolve our coffee brewing technology keeping our always brewed fresh every 20 minutes promise to guests and delivering our iconic taste in every cup.”
The new lids aim to reduce spills and improve coffee flow. It has been redesigned with a raised dome, tabbed closure and an embossed maple leaf. The new lid is made from polypropylene, which is 100 per cent recyclable.
Tim Hortons’ President Alex Macedo says, “We took more than two years to develop the new lid – conducting 12 research studies, serving over 30 million beverages and working with thousands of guests to help us design it.”
“Our guests have been asking for a better lid for years and we took the time to research and develop an improved lid that not just reduces spills but has a reduced carbon footprint,” Macedo continued. “Guest feedback on our new lid is overwhelmingly positive with a nine-to-one preference over our old lid.”
Tim Hortons is also set to transform consumer behaviour to decrease the use of single-use paper cups through an integrated marketing campaign over the next 10-years.
Tim Hortons has introduced new reusable drinkware as a part of their first sustainability initiative. The new line will be available for purchase this summer starting at $1.99.
They will also be introducing other sustainability initiatives in 2019 including testing more environmentally friendly paper cup, and a new strawless lid for iced coffee. They will also be removing wooden stir sticks.
Macedo says: “Coffee is the very DNA of the Tim Hortons brand – we have taken our time to ensure that we have gotten these initiatives right for our loyal guests. As Canada’s coffee leader, we are proud to spearhead this behaviour change toward using reusable cups.”
