If you are or know a senior who needs help with snow removal and cannot afford assistance, the city has a plan that could help.

According to the city, council has authorized a financial assistance program to help senior citizens and disabled/physically challenged homeowners cover costs associated with professional snow removal services.

Qualifying applicants can receive grants of up to $200 for non-corner lot properties or up to $300 for corner lot properties with sidewalks on two sides of the property and where both sidewalks are not cleared by city-run and operated services.

To be eligible, you or your loved one must be 65 years of age or older at the date of application or be permanently confined to a wheelchair, restricted to permanent use of crutches or braces or otherwise permanently disabled. You must also own and occupy the property you want maintained.

You will not qualify if you have claimed a credit on any other property for the same winter season or if you live in a condo where snow removal is the responsibility of the condo corporation.

If you are interested, you can return the application during the winter season no later than April 28, 2017

If your application is approved, you can use the reimbursement form to provide proof of service to the city. Requests for rebates must be received by July 28, 2017:
