The province’s Special Investigations Unit has terminated an investigation into a police shooting that occurred in Brampton earlier this year.

According to the SIU on April 10, 2018, Peel Regional Police officers attempted to stop a reportedly stolen SUV on Ace Drive, near Dixie Road and Mayfield Road. The responding officers attempted to box-in the SUV by positioning their cruisers in front and behind the vehicle.
As the subject officer exited his cruiser, the driver of the SUV reversed into his cruiser behind it, then drove forward striking the cruiser in front before fleeing north on Ace.
The subject officer discharged his firearm a number of times at the vehicle striking the passenger side front door and window.
The SUV was later located abandoned at the intersection of Stonegate Drive and Chickadee Crescent.  A small amount of blood was found on the inside of the driver’s arm rest.
Investigators from the SIU interviewed a number of persons, including three men whose fingerprints were located in the SUV. None of the three individuals showed any signs or evidence consistent with a firearm injury.
“As there is no proof of serious injury to any of the parties whose fingerprints were found in the vehicle that was fired at by the subject officer, and as the investigation was unable to identify any other person who may have been inside the SUV at the time and injured by a gunshot, there is at the moment nothing that would continue to engage our mandate or jurisdiction,” SIU Director Tony Loparco said.
“Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation into this incident,” Loparco concludes.
