Premier Doug Ford will be in Brampton today to make an announcement.

The Premier will be joined by his new COVID-19 vaccine task force chair General Rick Hillier and Health Minister Christine Elliott.

Although the Premier’s office has not indicated what the announcement will be about, residents and local officials are hoping he is using the backdrop of Brampton to announce new measures to help combat COVID-19 in the community.

Brampton currently has one of the highest rates of the coronavirus in the country and local politicians and health officials have been asking for some form of sick pay for those essential workers who do not receive it through the employers.

As well, there are growing demands for Brampton to have its own isolation centre where those who have COVID-19 can safely stay away from crowded households.

The Premier is expected to make his announcement at 1 p.m.
