Police are continuing to investigate a recent kidnapping in Brampton and search for the victim and suspect.

At 2:56 a.m. on Sunday, March 28, officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on Adventura Dr in the area of Mayfield and Mississauga Rd.

“It is reported that a man was screaming and banging on the door of the residence,” police said.

Officers attended the residence and reportedly heard a female screaming from somewhere inside before entering the house.

There was an interaction between police and a man, at which time an officer discharged their firearm. It’s unclear at this time if there were any injuries.

“The suspect fled the area in a vehicle with a woman inside who we believe is being held against her will,” police reported.

The suspect was identified as 21 year old Kwami Garwood, while the victim is 23 year old Salina Ouk. Police say the vehicle is a black Honda Civic with Ontario licence plate number BZHE 247.

The suspect and victim are known to each other.

Police say Garwood is also wanted on four outstanding warrants throughout the GTA, the most serious of which is a first-degree murder warrant issued by Toronto police in July 2020. One other male was arrested in that incident, which reportedly took place in Scarborough.

Garwood is believed to be armed and dangerous. Police are asking anyone who sees the suspect or the vehicle to contact 911 immediately and do not approach him.

The search for the suspect and victim is ongoing. “The safety and well-being of Salina Ouk is our primary concern,” said police.

Due to one of the officers discharging their firearm at a person, the SIU has invoked its mandate and will be investigating.

Anyone with information or video footage is asked to call police at 905-453–2121, ext. 2233.

UPDATE: Thanks to information from the public, police say they have located the suspect’s vehicle in Brampton, a short distance away from the residence.

“The vehicle, however, was unoccupied, and the female party and male party are still outstanding at this time,” said police.

The vehicle has been seized and is being processed for evidence.
