Police have released the identity of a woman who was allegedly murdered by a former intimate partner who went on to take his own life in a Brampton residence.

Peel police say that around 2:08 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2019, officers responded to a call in the area of Eagleridge Drive and Bighorn Crescent. Upon arriving at the residence, officers discovered the bodies of a 27-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man.
After an investigation, it was determined the woman’s death was the result of a homicide.
At a Dec. 10 news conference, Peel Regional Police Inspector Martin Ottaway told reporters that police believe the male murdered the woman and took his own life.

Ottaway said the female victim and the deceased male had been in an intimate relationship in the past.
The victim, Toronto woman Sharanjeet Kaur, was reported missing to Toronto police by a friend shortly before she was murdered. Police were actively investigating her disappearance before tracing her to the Brampton residence, Ottaway said.
Police have identified the 35-year-old deceased male as Navdeep Singh.
“It has been determined that Navdeep Singh caused the death of Sharanjeet Kaur and then took his own life. At this time investigators are not seeking any further suspects and this investigation is ongoing,” Peel police said in a news release.
At the news conference, Ottaway told reporters that police do not know if Kaur was abducted, nor do they know how she ended up at the house.
Ottaway says he does not believe they were still involved with one another romantically at the time of the incident.
It is not clear how long Kaur was missing before her friend reported her disappearance to police.
