Police Concerned After Brampton Rocked by Three Shooting Incidents in One Day

Police are expressing concern after a relatively violent Wednesday in Brampton and Mississauga.

“Within the last 24 hours, we have had three separate gun-related incidents in our region. Two were in broad-daylight, all were in very public places. This reckless disregard for public safety causes us great concern,” Peel Regional Police said in a news release. 

Police say that on Nov. 20, 2018, at approximately 11:20 p.m., a 26-year-old man was driving on the northbound 410 in Brampton when he was shot by occupants of a passing car. The man was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.

On Nov. 21, 2018, at approximately noon, police say they received numerous calls about shots being fired at a restaurant in the Dixie Road and Queen Street area in Brampton.

The restaurant had numerous patrons inside. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Police allege the person that fired the shots fled prior to police arrival. The suspect is described as a man wearing dark pants and a grey hooded top with fur on the hood.

At 12:15 p.m. that same day, police received numerous calls in regards to shots being fired at a pharmacy in the Main Street and Steeles Avenue in Brampton.

The pharmacy had several customers inside, but no injuries were reported.

Police allege the person that fired the shot fled prior to police arrival. He is described as a black man who was wearing a black hooded jacket and grey pants. Police say he had a black scarf covering his face.

In the later afternoon, police announced that a woman sustained life-threatening injuries following an alleged stabbing incident in the Airport Rd. and Derry Rd. area in Mississauga.

Police say that, in recent months, the service increased the number of officers on the street during peak times to assist with call volume, adding that its Strategic and Targeted Enforcement Policing program has enabled officers to to better address gangs and gun-related activity.

“We have a safe community and we plan to keep it that way. These incidents will be investigated thoroughly using all available resources in an effort to take guns off the street and arrest those responsible. Community safety is our highest priority and our employees will continue to work hard to reduce incidents of violence.” said Chief Jennifer Evans.
