Peel Regional Police officer diagnosed with COVID-19

A Peel Regional Police officer is recovering in self-isolation after being diagnosed with COVID-19, police say.
The news comes just days after Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services confirmed that a firefighter tested positive for the virus.
Cst. Danny Marttini told insauga.com that the officer’s diagnoses was confirmed on March 30.
“They were already put into self-isolation, as we have a protocol in place with this illness. If anyone has symptoms or has had contact [with a COVID-19 patient], they’re told to self-isolate right away.”
Marttini said that since the officer was in self-isolation before the test results came in, the police service does not believe the officer in question posed a risk to other officers or any members of the public.
The officer will not return to duty until they’ve cleared the virus, Marttini says.
