Peel Region sets record high for COVID-19 cases today

Peel Region has set a new single day record for COVID-19 cases.
Today (Nov. 26), the Ontario government reports 572 new cases for Peel, the most recorded since the pandemic began last spring.
Peel’s numbers make up a third of all cases in Ontario which has seen an overall increase of 1,478 today.
The high caseload has further amplified the pleas of residents, healthcare professionals and politicians who have all asked senior levels of government for more measures to curb the infections.
Some good news for Peel did arrive today with the announcement that more isolation units will open, however the calls for paid sick leave for workers and more testing sites continue.
Across Ontario 21 people have died as a result of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

The new number also reveals that Peel is now well ahead of Toronto in new cases as that city reports 356 new infections.
York Region and Halton Region both report 111 new cases and Hamilton 59.
Across Ontario four schools are closed because of COVID-19 outbreaks, with 88 schools showing rates of infection.
