A Peel Police veteran is facing weapon charges.

According to police, a 19-year veteran of the Peel Regional Police has been arrested and charged with three counts of alleged assault and one count of alleged assault with a weapon following a seven-month-long investigation by the Peel Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau.

After Peel Regional Police learned about the allegations in March of this year, an internal investigation into the officer’s conduct began, police say.

Sergeant Badal Kaushal was suspended with pay as per the provisions of the Police Services Act, police say.

According to police, on Nov. 16, the accused was arrested and charged with two counts of alleged assault and one count of alleged assault with a weapon in relation to an on-duty incident that occurred on May 21, 2017, in the City of Brampton.

The victims, a 44-year-old female and a 33-year-old female, sustained minor injuries, according to police.

Police say the accused was further charged with one count of assault in relation to an on-duty incident that occurred on July 23, 2017.

Again, according to police, the victim, a 53-year-old male, sustained minor injuries.

According to police, the accused was released on a promise to appear and undertaking with a scheduled court date of Dec. 17 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Chief Jennifer Evans is committed to ensuring transparency and maintaining the public’s confidence and trust when dealing with allegations of police officer misconduct.

“Our officers are held to a high standard in order to maintain the trust that we have worked so hard to build within our community. Upon learning of the allegations,” Evans said in a recent news release.

“I immediately ordered an internal investigation into the conduct and actions of the involved officer.”
