Peel Police Cleared in Multi-Vehicle Brampton Crash

A Peel police officer has been cleared by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit after two teens were injured in a multi-vehicle Brampton crash involving a cruiser.
A Peel police officer has been cleared by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit after two teens were injured in a multi-vehicle Brampton crash involving a cruiser.
“… There are no reasonable grounds to believe that any actions on the part of the [subject officer] contributed in any way to the collision or the subsequent injuries sustained,” by the complainants, said SIU director Tony Loparco.
“As such, there is no basis on this evidence to consider any criminal charges again the [subject officer] and none will issue.”
The incident took place along Main St. N. on May 17, 2017, at 7:34 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy was driving his Volkswagen Jetta on Main St. N., south of Williams Pkwy.
In an attempt to avoid a head-on crash with a black SUV that had cut him off, the Jetta became involved in a collision with a Toyota 4Runner being driven by a 17-year-old girl.
The Jetta then struck a police cruiser.
The impact with the Jetta caused the cruiser to rotate counterclockwise and it came to a rest after colliding with a utility pole on the west sidewalk of the southbound lanes.
The SUV fled the scene.
Both teens suffered serious injuries.
The Jetta driver was diagnosed with a possible fractured nose while the Toyota driver had a fractured wrist.
Investigators used footage from Brampton Transit bus which was in the area at the time and captured the entire sequence of events leading up to the collision.
“There is no dispute nor any confusion as to the facts,” wrote Loparco in his decision.
