With most people in Brampton self-isolating at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s safe to say that many miss being able to go out to places they used to enjoy visiting.

Fans of Peel Art Gallery, Museum + Archives (PAMA) may be longing to return, but in the meantime, their social media channels and virtual family fun activities are a way for families to have fun and stay connected from the comfort of their homes.

Behind-the-scenes tours, art and artifact spotlights are just some of the ways people can still experience PAMA virtually.

Behind-the scenes tours take place on PAMA’s YouTube channel as well as on all their social platforms such as FacebookTwitter and Instagram where people can connect with arts and culture from the comfort of their homes.

PAMA’s website also features over 50 family fun activities, colouring sheets and hands-on education lessons on the homepage.

Each Tuesday in August, PAMA will continue to premiere a special activity video on all their social media channels as well as posting step-by-step instructions for three activities each week on the PAMA website’s homepage.

Additionally, they will continue to feature behind-the-scenes videos with our curators from the art gallery, museum and archives that tie into their weekly themes.

Weekly August Staycation themes include Toys and Games, Art Voice Expressions, Rainbow Creations and Stories to Tell.

During the month of August, PAMA’s website will also feature two virtual exhibitions.

Art Voice, launching on August 10, will showcase youth voices from the Region of Peel. It will feature a display of youth expressing themselves through various mediums and offering their unique perspectives.

According to PAMA, the theme was kept open so that local emerging youth artists could feel free to share their works of art about home, being in isolation, struggles with mental health, image and racism, the changing environment, beauty found in nature and everyday life.

Our Voices, Our Journeys: Black Communities in Peel, launching August 24, will be a virtual exhibition showcasing stories about resilience and purpose shared by Black residents of Caledon. The exhibit will enable participants to learn why they came to Canada and how they built a vibrant community for their families.
