Ontario sees significant drop in new COVID-19 cases today, Peel Region numbers remain steady

While province-wide Ontario is reporting a significant drop in new COVID-19 cases today, in Peel Region the numbers remain steady at the 500 level.
Today, Ontario reports 2,578 cases which is well below the 3,074 seven day average for the province.
In Peel the number is 507, a mark that shows the region is averaging about 3,500 new cases per week since the beginning of 2021.
However, public health officials are cautioning against being overly optimistic about today’s results as the number of tests conducted across the province were down by 20,000 from the day before.
Meanwhile, 24 deaths were reported today, 14 of who were residents of long-term care homes. In the past week 421 people have died of COVID-19 in Ontario.
Other areas of Ontario that are reporting significant numbers today are Toronto with 815 new cases, York Region and Niagara Region both with 151 and 121 cases in Hamilton.

Across Ontario there are slightly more than 400 people being treated in hospital intensive care units with just over 300 more patients on ventilators.
