There is a huge drop in new COVID-19 cases in Ontario today, however, despite some optimism, health officials say a technical glitch may account for the lower numbers.

Officially, there are 1,913 new reported cases today, the lowest number seen in the province since this past December 13.

The number of cases in Peel Region are also the lowest they have been in weeks with 346 new cases today.

The Government Ontario says today’s numbers may be due to a technical issue surrounding underreporting in Toronto which shows 550 new cases, well below the marks reported in the past week.

Still, the number of people who have died as a result of the coronavirus continues to climb with 46 deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

Currently, there are 1,626 people who are being treated in Ontario hospitals for COVID with 400 in intensive care and 292 patients receiving ventilation.
