Upgrades undertaken by GO Transit will close off a large section of the parking area at the Bramalea GO Station in Brampton until next spring.

The work is part of an overall construction project that GO expects will lead to more user-friendly amenities at the station.

Some of the improvements include a snow melting system on platforms and overhead canopies to protect commuters from the weather as they wait for the train. The upgraded platforms will also be able to accommodate 12-car trains.

As well, the future parking garage is expected to add 1,300 vehicle spaces and have multiple elevators to make the platforms more accessible.

Other aspects of the work will create a new passenger pick-up and drop-off area, a dedicated Züm bus loop, covered bike parking, retail spaces, improved access to Bramalea Rd., a new pedestrian tunnel at the west end of the station, and additional emergency call stations.

In the meantime, the current work is focussed on the north parking lot located near Bramalea Rd. and Steeles Ave. The work includes repairs to underground infrastructure, curbs, installation of light poles and the eventual re-surfacing.

Parking is still available in other parts of the station with additional spaces available at the Canadian Tire parking lot across Bramalea Rd.

Bus stops 15 and 16 at the northeast corner of the north parking lot will remain open during the construction phase.

The east side of the island platform is closed while the work is being done. The south platform, from the stairs to the new west tunnel all the way to the east end of the platform, is also closed.

As well, the construction will affect some elevator usage.
