‘No longer considered peaceful’: Arrests made following protest in Mississauga and Brampton

Police say they’ve made multiple arrests in connection to a protest that started in Mississauga and moved to Brampton.
A number of people gathered this afternoon at the intersection of Goreway Dr and Morning Star Dr in Malton to protest the SIU’s recent decision to not lay criminal charges against any of the Peel police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Ejaz Choudry.
Choudry, a 62-year-old schizophrenic man, was killed in his Mississauga apartment last June.
Roads leading to the intersection were closed earlier this afternoon due to the protest, which later moved northbound on Goreway.
Police said at 4:30 p.m. that protestors attempted to push through police safety lines.
“For the safety of all involved and those in the community, this is no longer considered a peaceful gathering,” said police.

“Criminal offences will not be tolerated and those committing criminal acts will be held accountable.”
Arrests were made for “various offences” which haven’t been specified by police at this time.
The remaining protestors were asked to disperse.
A road closure remains in effect on Goreway Dr and residents are advised to take alternate routes.

UPDATE: It was reported at 9:28 p.m. that protestors have gathered at 21 Division in Brampton following the earlier demonstration and arrests.
Seven people have been arrested and are currently being processed at the division, police say.
