Peel Public Health recently confirmed that three mosquito batches collected in Peel on the week of Sunday, September 8 have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The positive batches were collected in Mississauga (in the area of Dundas Street West and Erin Mills Parkway), and in Brampton (in the area of Sandalwood Parkway East and Bramalea Road and the area of Steeles Avenue and McLaughlin Road).

Symptoms of West Nile Virus include fever, headache, tiredness, body aches, occasional skin rashes, and swollen lymph glands.

To avoid getting bitten from mosquitoes who may be carrying the virus, residents are advised to wear light-coloured clothing (including long sleeves and pants), use insect repellents, and consider staying indoors from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
