For the second week in a row, Peel Region (Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon) and Hamilton have the second and third highest COVID-19 percent positivity rate out of all of Ontario’s public health units, respectively.

Toronto-based research group ICES ranked all 34 public health units in Ontario for the week of May 30 to June 5 based on their percent positivity (percentage of positive tests in the area).

Peel is listed 2nd at 5.74% and Hamilton is listed 3rd at 5.35%. Toronto is listed 7th under Waterloo, Durham and Niagara.

Ontario overall is listed 10th at 3.10%.

Peel and Hamilton’s percentages are down from last week where they reported 8.50% and 6.09% respectively.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of May 30 was 3.1%, a drop from 4.3% the previous week — but ICES says the true incidence of COVID-19 is likely being underestimated as testing continues to decrease.

Ontario has reached 68% overall vaccine coverage among those aged 12 and up, a 5% increase from the previous week.
