Brampton residents will be able to throw out more trash than usual beginning next month.

Starting May 3 and continuing to June 25, all households in Peel Region can place up to two extra garbage bags at the curb on regular collection days without requiring bag tags.

The temporary measure will allow residents to get rid of excess garbage that has been piling up since the pandemic began a year ago.

Sanitation engineers will only pick up two additional bags from your place and they must be black plastic garbage bags. Excess garbage in containers will not be collected.

If you have purchased bag tags there is no need to use them during this period. Hold onto them for later use.

As a result of the expected additional loads, collection may face delays during this two month period. As well, the bags may be picked up at different times during the day from the regular bin collection.

If the garbage is not picked up by 8 p.m., you can report a missed collection.

As well, again this year, the exemption period where you can put out unlimited trash will not take place this year.

Bulky items, however, can be placed on the curb for pickup on regular collection days throughout the year.

If you have a bunch of extra junk and need to get rid of it, you can take it to any Peel Community Recycling Centre.
