Mayor expects Brampton to be the first community to receive COVID vaccine

Mayor Patrick Brown expects Brampton and Peel Region will be at the top of the list for the COVID-19 vaccine when the program rolls out next week.
Vaccines are scheduled to arrive in Ontario by next Tuesday with distribution handled by a Government of Ontario task force headed by retired General Rick Hillier
“The government has said it will go to the areas that have been hardest hit fist,” Brown told inbrampton.com “Following that logic, the first vaccine should be going to Peel Region because we have a higher positivity rate.”
The mayor said he has been assured by those responsible for the delivery of the vaccine that everything will go according to plan, however the mayor admits that could change.
“I have some concern that the initial storage (of the vaccine) and rollout is taking place in downtown Toronto and Ottawa,” he said adding those locations don’t have the severe caseload that Brampton is experiencing. “I’ve called and have been assured that it will take place next week in Peel Region. If that’s not the case I will be very vocal in my displeasure.”
The mayor said Brampton has offered support to help in the delivery of the vaccine but as of yet they have not been tasked with any of that responsibility by Hillier and the task force.

“We have offered logistic support and our facilities but they have not asked us for that kind of support,” he said. “But we are ready if they need us.”
